How does CO2 laser resurfacing work?

A noticeably younger look without surgery!
Just One treatment improves tone, texture and radiance for aging, scars, pigment and sun-damage.
CO2 laser skin resurfacing is for people who want to look younger without surgery or extended downtime.

Gold-Standard Skin Resurfacing

As its name suggests, this procedure uses specialized CO2 lasers to specifically target and treat a wide variety of skin-related issues, including scars, wrinkles, pigment and deeper skin flaws.

This, in turn, offers a huge range of benefits over other forms of treatments. The newest version of CO2 laser resurfacing (fractionated CO2) uses very short pulsed light energy (known as ultrapulse) or continuous light beams that are delivered in a scanning pattern to remove thin layers of skin with minimal heat damage.

Normally performed as one or moderate/effective - or -  a series of lighter sessions, for permanent rejuvenation and resurfacing.

CO2 laser resurfacing uses fractionated pulses of laser light at 10600nm. These beams penetrate the skin’s surface, where water in the skin cells absorbs them.

When this happens, small spots of the epidermis (or superficial layer of your skin) is vaporized. The dermis, or middle layer, heats up, stimulating the growth of new collagen fibers. As the area heals, new firmer, smoother skin replaces the old layers.

This  treatment  specifically targets only the water in the skin. CO2 laser was first developed in 1964 by Patel and colleagues working Bell Labs in the USA. It was also  quickly recognized as an ideal surgical laser because of its high water absorption, and many indications were pioneered by the late Professor Isaac Kaplan and others. This technology was later remastered and designed as a fractionated laser, unparalleled  today for safe and dramatic skin rejuvenation.

The treatment is applicable to a variety of clients – whether it’s an older person wanting to dramatically improve wrinkles and skin tightness, or a young adult looking for improvement in acne scars. If you have particularly bad acne or are accustomed to getting a lot of spots, CO2 laser treatment can help significantly improve the scarring associated with both of these issues.

CO2 laser resurfacing can also help improve the complexion by repairing sun damage or scarring, after the initial redness associated with the treatment has subsided, and it combats a range of associated issues like rosacea.

CO2 laser resurfacing will help improve your skin's overall appearance and firmness.

Why look older when you still feel young at heart? Thanks to CO2 laser treatment, you can now look as old as you feel and take the quality of your skin back decades in time for a drastic improvement.

What are some benefits of  treatment??

  • Smoother, fresher, younger-looking skin
  • Improved tone, firmness and texture
  • Reduction of unwanted brown spots
  • Reduced fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and mouth
  • Improved appearance of acne scars and surgical scars

Since the laser treats only a fraction of tissue at a time, it leaves the surrounding tissue intact, which promotes very rapid healing.

Due to the highly specified nature of the lasers involved, CO2 laser resurfacing can target specific areas of the skin to provide a truly tailored treatment option for clients.

Many clients stack Secret RF with a lighter CO2 treatment,  or Cool Peeling in the same appointment. MNRF combined with CO2 is an excellent treatment for skin laxity and lift. By combining the two modalities, we can offer both a deeper treatment with the MNRF and more superficial treatment with a lighter CO2  laser session to  also optimize resurfacing results.

    How to Book?

Following your  complimentary consultation and approval for treatment, you will be provided with instructions on how to prepare for a few weeks prior to your appointment. Darker skin types, those with compromised immune systems, pregnant or nursing and some other conditions may be contraindicated.

    The Day of Procedure

You will arrive and have your skin disinfected and a topical numbing agent will be applied for approx 30 mins to increase comfort, most often we also have clients prenumb at home. Treatment is in increments of up to one hour , or longer by quote. You’ll receive special eyewear to protect your eyes from the laser, and intraocular shields if you are receiving eye rejuvenation.

Generally speaking, there are minimal risks involved for the patient, which are carefully managed, and the procedure itself is tolerable. The sensation is often described as similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin, but the sensation depends on the area of treatment, the depth of the laser and the individual’s tolerance.

During the treatment the laser wand will be moved slowly over the area of skin being treated. You may receive an ice pack to apply to decrease swelling. Finally, an antibacterial ointment will be applied to the treated skin.

    Recovery

Full recovery instructions are provided, downtime is approx. 5-7+days. Pink/red tone may linger for some time as new skin reaches maturity, but can be covered with makeup. Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher, avoid direct sun exposure for at least 3 months after your last treatment, and wear a wide-brimmed hat when you're in the sun. We can provide you with a second-stage aftercare kit to enhance results/recovery and reduce redness.

We have you attend a mandatory Heal Check assessment appointment 10 days after your procedure 15mins/$20.

You may desire  more than one treatment session, depending on the treatment required and intensity  used. Every individual case differs and everyone’s personal desired results vary. One session may be all that’s required. For other problem areas, more sessions may be needed. We can work together to create the best treatment plan for your specific desired end result. Results are immediate and progressive, with optimal improvement usually visible in 2 to 3 months. This time frame and treatment structure allow for healing and the production of new collagen to replace damaged tissue

Session may be repeated after 1-3 months without issue.

When you look great, you feel great – so, by improving the overall feel of your skin, or dealing with any issues you’re having, this could help boost your levels of self-esteem and confidence.

CO2 laser resurfacing is great for improving the  appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It may prove especially effective on:

    • crow’s feet, or lines and wrinkles under and around the eyes
    • lines and wrinkles on the forehead
    • laugh lines, or those appearing around the mouth

Not only can it reduce the appearance of wrinkles right away, it also encourages collagen production, which can improve the health of your skin over time.

Can this be used in combination of other treatments?

Yes, CO2 Laser Resurfacing  can be used in tandem with our other treatments. It is often used as a final touch after deeper rejuvenation from  SECRETRF Fractional non-surgical facelift series or Collagen Therapy Treatments.

You may also add-on a Light CO2 or Cool Peeling CO2 session during your SecretRF appointment.

Can I treat just one area, or the entire face?

The clinician will review your current skin conditions and goals  during complimentary  consultation, and will advise you on the best route to achieve improvement.
